This book is a unique view of the progress women have made, or not made, from articles published between 1972 and 1993. Ms. Kassell is a feminist and while many do not really understand what that means, readers will find this information unique. It is not written as a regular story but a chronology of the women’s movement and the impact on our society.

Her book provides readers with original articles, pictures and demographics of women during those years.  What is interesting to me is that we as women still face many of these injustices and yet what are we doing about it? This is not only important information for women today, but men. Our male population needs to know what we want instead of labeling women as over-emotional.
I was particularly interested in how she got the media and individuals to add Ms. to our repertoire.  We as women have come a long way- yet injustices are still occurring daily. What do we want? How do we go about getting it? You can see through history what women have overcome and strive for.

I do believe that all readers of “Taking Women in New Directions” will see the history of women and their attempts to be equal in jobs, caretaking and healthcare. We still have a way to go, but I do believe readers will find the facts and actions very important.  The author, Paula Kassell, really gives readers of all ages food-for-thought.  This has excellent references and insight.
