In my 43 years of existence, I can truly say that “The Serpent Messiah” is like no other autobiography that I have ever read. This book has to be read with an open mind. Readers must suspend their personal religious beliefs about God and the creation of man, and allow themselves to enter the realm of the Serpent Messiah. The author, Mark F. Karns, tells us his story beginning when the universe was created by God. He believes that God created him as a Serpent to be king over the creation of men and women. He found this task to be overwhelming. With one of his attempts, he ended up creating the devil. As time progressed he found himself in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. He recalls being dismissed by Adam, and his attraction to Eve. In his serpent form he tempted her with the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He went against God’s will to do this.
During his second coming, he believes that he returned in spirit form as Jesus. He recalls escaping crucifixion with the help of Mary Magdalene. His third coming was in the human form of Mark, who he is today. He was born in 1944. He recalls his birth and abuse that the suffered at the hands of his grandfather in his very early years. He also remembers having a conversation in which God spoke to him through a rock. As he grew up, he felt ostracized by classmates, teachers, neighbors, and some of his family members. Some went to the point of being abusive.
Even at an early age he was very outspoken about his beliefs and had no problems letting people know when he felt that they were wrong or if he felt they were going to hell. He also has recollections of his father telling him that a DNA test showed that he was not his son. This event took place many, many years before 1985 when DNA testing was created. Karns also claims to have memories of his family forcing painful, still unheard of, surgeries on him in their home and in a doctor’s office. He felt that this was done to alter his DNA and affected his fertility.
The most unsettling recollection that he has was of being drugged, at his grandfather’s house, with an aphrodisiac type of medication. This took place in 1953, when he was in the third grade. In an attempt to relieve his urges, he raped his mother, who appeared to have been knocked out with another type of drug. Through this, he created his son/brother whom was named Christ.
As time passed, his family moved around a lot. At one of the places he lived, he felt that he had neighbors that started the anti-Christ movement. It seems that most of the people that he encountered were not accepting of him, some to the point of being abusive. However, along the way he did make a few valuable friends. He also had some enlightening experiences that helped him along his journey, and some darkening ones, like being in the military that made his path more difficult. No matter what he experienced, he never let go of his beliefs of who is truly is and that he is here to help save mankind.
I found reading “The Serpent Messiah” to be extremely fascinating. There were several parts that I found to be somewhat contradictory or very confusing. While I was willing to sit back and try to relate to the author’s story of his life, at times I had to question whether some of his experiences were really memories or delusions. Who is it for me to say? Mark Karns is entitled to his beliefs and to his life, and I truly hope that he has been able to find peace and contentment in these later years. I definitely get the impression that he does not feel that his purpose for being here is over yet, and that he still has plans to help save mankind. It will be very interesting to see what happens.
