Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life: A Practical Guide for Attaining Better Health, Vitality and Inner Peace
Vibrational healer, public speaker, self-proclaimed empathic, and author Dawn James releases her first book, “Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life: A Practical Guide for Attaining Better Health, Vitality and Inner Peace.” Within the pages, she hopes to convey the purpose and use of vibrations in the various aspects of daily life. While containing some interesting theories, practical relaxation techniques, and positive thinking models, I also found some of the advice to range from ‘alternative medicine that I would research further before trying’ to ‘just irresponsible.’ Essentially these are the author’s personal techniques that, while they may have worked for her, should be coordinated with a licensed medical practitioner before attempting. “Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life” introduces the reader to the concept of vibrations – resonant frequencies which can help or hinder one’s health and well-being. By thinking in a more positive light, James postulates that a person’s vibration will rise and subsequently result in better health, greater happiness, and the attraction of personal wants and needs; sort of like “The Secret” meets “Electrical Engineering 101.” Her writing style is light and relaxed; you can feel her contentment as you read. The book is well-edited and organized, with only one noticeable error – an unexplained acronym. Her methods are mostly encouraging; motivating the reader to think happy thoughts, gain strength through adversity, and persevere with confidence. She also offers her thoughts on types of foods and drink to eat or to avoid, the effects of watching television, detoxifying the body, conscious breathing and relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy, color, sound, gemstones, and crystals. I felt the book was missing a more pronounced disclaimer. There is a tiny paragraph on the bottom and rear of the title page, noting that the “book is not intended to dispense medical advice…” With the sheer amount of non-traditional methods contained, there really needs to be an entire section (or at least a page at the beginning of the first chapter) urging the reader to seek medical advice before beginning any new health-related endeavor. Further, there is one area of the book which should have its own disclaimer – the Muscle-Testing Exercise. The author relays that simply holding a product in your hand, extending your arm straight out, and having another person press down as you resist, will determine if that product is something you should try. If you cannot resist, it is because the product you are holding is affecting your body’s electrical system and your arm muscles are instantly weakened. If you can resist, you should try the product. She further – and moreirresponsibly – gives the same advice for allergies; “if you suspect you are allergic to wheat, you can muscle test using a piece of wheat bread, or even a cup of flour. If you are sensitive or allergic to wheat, your arm will weaken under pressure.” This is both dangerous advice and a potential law suit as allergic reactions can have deadly consequences. No author, especially one without a medical license, should take it upon herself to advise a self-diagnosis for allergies; tests should only be conducted by qualified allergists and in controlled environments. “Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life: A Practical Guide for Attaining Better Health, Vitality and Inner Peace” reflects the spirit of happiness and joy which radiates from author Dawn James. While not all methods contained should not be attempted without professional medical oversight, her techniques for positive thinking, breathing, and relaxation are constructive and her theory of vibrations is worthy of further research. |
