Between, Georgia OK, I'm the first to admit that I've never been a fan of present day novels of any kind, But "Between, Georgia" may have just changed my mind. Who would have ever thought that the birth of one small innocent little girl would change two families in ways they never imagined. But that's what happened one fateful night in Bernese Frett Baxter’s living room floor. The world of the Fretts and the Crabtrees would forever been woven into each other others like the threads of a quilt of many colors, many stories, many lies, and many secrets. "Between, Georgia" is a story of Nonny Frett who has lived her whole life between the family who is related by blood and the family that raised her (her family). There has always been trouble between the Fretts and the Crabtrees but it all comes to a head the day Ona Crabtree's dog attacks Nonny's Aunt Genny, her mother's twin sister. Nonny had enough to worry about with her upcoming divorce to Jonno, but now she had her mother, Stacia Frett who is blind, and her Aunt Genny. Not to mention Ona Crabtrees temper, and her Aunt Bernese's temper was just as hot. Nonny comes home to more turmoil than she needs. Plus she discovers that her Aunt Bernese has gained custody of Fisher, her granddaughter, and Fisher is paying the price for her mother's troubles, which adds to Nonny's worries. And last but not least is Henry, her oldest and dearest friend, who so happens to be a Crabtree himself, though three times removed. Nonny doesn't have time to fall for Henry, she has to save her families from each other. Can Nonny Frett help her mother, her aunts, Ona, Fisher, and still discover that everything she needed was in "Between, Georgia"? Joshilyn Jackson does a outstanding job, making "Between,Georgia" come alive and jump right off the pages. Each turn of the page is just one glance into a wonderful, delightful town that is overflowing with small town families, businesses, lies, and secrets. Lies and secrets that will make or break the family Nonny Frett has dreamed for. |
