How to Rise Above Abuse: Victory for Victims of Five Types of Abuse (Counseling Through the Bible Series)June Hunt June Hunt has finally given many readers what they want – information on various types of abuse combined with biblical interpretation. For the last few years, working as a college instructor in Psychology, many of my students have asked for resources regarding abuse and spiritual themes. Ms. Hunt’s book covers all forms of abuse, symptoms of abuse and how God can help make changes. Many times victims of abuse feel that the environment they grew up in was normal and therefore they deserve the abuse and remain in a victim’s mentality. They see no light at the end of the tunnel – yet they continually ask for spiritual help. In each chapter, from the beginning, Ms. Hunt provides easy-to-read and understand material. She provides frequently-asked questions, providing solid answers along with verses from the Bible. The chapter on Spiritual Abuse was very enlightening to read. In today’s world with the number of people - especially children - being abused by clergy, it is very important to know about this. But the most important theme gotten out of this chapter was using God’s word for personal gain As the author states “Spiritual abuse is excessive control of others.” In addition, the author provides checklists for readers so they might see if they are in abusive relationships. Another great checklist was for those who abuse. “How to Rise Above Abuse” was easy to read and understand. Ms. Hunt provides insight without judgment. Her tone is empathetic and understanding. |
