On Our Way Home: Courage and Faith for the Final Journey
Not often do I enjoy reading a book concerning death. In “On Our Way Home,” Pastor Bob Herhold easily discusses a subject we would all like to avoid making this discussion interesting and painless. The author uses short, mostly humorous stories to lead us through the aging process to the inevitable, Death. We cannot avoid death; it is part of God’s plan. Death is not an ending but a beginning. As, Pastor Bob discusses his brother’s death, he expresses his pain and yet his hope. He honestly states that we all fear death. We fear the unknown. I found myself marking several passages: “personal memorial, the impression we leave with people, is the most enduring kind, one that requires some sacrifice on our part” “You can always allow yourself to take risks because you just know that the Lord will not allow you to sink so far that your can’t swim.” “Prayer is seeing others as God sees them.” are just a few of the insights that struck me. Long after I laid this one down, I found myself thinking about it. This book offers hope and insight on a subject we’d all like to ignore. |
