This is H. Terrell Griffin’s fourth Matt Royal Mystery and the first one that I have read.  I really enjoyed this well-written, action-packed thriller and plan to read the other three.

Matt Royal is a retired lawyer living a very pleasant life in Longboat Key, Florida.  He spends his days working out, boating and visiting his favorite bars.  This all comes to a screeching halt when his best friend Laurence Wyatt is killed, execution style, in his home on Longboat Key. Sickened by what happened, Vietnam veteran Royal vows to catch the killer and make him pay for what he did to his friend.

Matt’s investigation turns nasty as he finds himself embroiled in a cover-up that dates back to World War II.  It quickly becomes apparent that the people that are being protected are very high up in either the government or among America’s wealthiest individuals.

As the story starts to unravel, and Matt is targeted for death, he realizes that he has to go to Europe to answer some very important questions.  He is joined by some of his old friends from his days in Vietnam, and this mystery requires that all of their skills be put to good use.  All leads point to the protection of the identities of post-war Nazis who escaped Germany after amassing tremendous wealth from the Jews.

I started to feel jet-lagged as Matt went to Europe and then had to rush back to Florida to save his friend who had been kidnapped.  And then he went right back to Europe to follow up more leads and then back to the United States without a reprieve.

This is definitely one of the better thriller books that I’ve read.  The author does an excellent job intertwining historical facts with a great story.  If you enjoy a great mystery thriller, than I highly recommend “Wyatt’s Revenge.” I hope that H. Terrell Griffin plans on future installments of Matt Royal mysteries.
