Many grandmothers are remembered by the wonderful dishes she made for special holidays or visits. They can range from cookies and cakes to dinner or lunch dishes. And, they could be the same dishes that anyone else makes but for some reason Grandma’s always taste so much better.

Shanna D. Gregor gives us grandmothers an opportunity to create special dishes to be remembered by.  For the purpose of the review we are asked to try out three recipes.

The first one I tried is “Cherries in Snow.” Oh my goodness, this is delicious!  The nutty crust is soft and chewy. The topping, using whipped topping, cream cheese and powdered sugar gives the next layer a mousse-like texture. Top that with a layer of cherry pie filling and you are sure to be remembered for generations.

The next recipe I tried was the “Zucchini Bake.”  This is a recipe that takes very little time, is easy to put together, and makes a wonderful lunch dish when combined with a side salad and crusty rolls.  I’ll be making this one again.

The third recipe I tried was “Strawberry Chicken Salad.”  I’ve made chicken salad with grapes but never with strawberries.  Although the recipe asks for canned chicken breast I used left over grilled chicken.  Add a little mayonnaise and some shaved almonds and you have a great main dish for a hot summer day.  I loved the combination of chicken and strawberries. Another keeper.

I noticed the other recipes in “Favorite Recipes from Grandma’s Kitchen” are simple, easy to make, and the ingredients could be found in any panty and certainly at a local grocery store.  The dishes are tummy-friendly and Grandma will certainly be remembered as being the “bestest cook in the world.”
