“The Mars Run” is a great space opera tale. Janet Pilgrim is an 18 year old astronaut that heads out into space hoping to earn enough money to go to college. She gets an education of a life time during
her adventures with space pirates. Janet has to learn to do what ever it takes to survive, and survive she does. She manages to convince the pirates that she is of worth to them and is able to avoid being killed.
She has to endure brutality at their hands, but is able to enact revenge on them and come out a stronger person.
Gerrib does an excellent job of writing this novel. He provides the reader with convincing descriptions without becoming overly mired in details. He develops all of the characters very well. Even the bad guys are more than just flat one dimensional characters. The author does a great job of writing the story from a female’s perspective.
I was also impressed with his ability to believably describe the environments on other planets, on the earth in the future, and on the space ships. It felt like Gerrib was writing something that could be true to life, not just a science fiction story.
I highly recommend this book to science fiction fans. You will enjoy the futuristic yet realistic aspects of the tale while you watch Janet evolve into a force to be reckoned with.
