Shaking Hands with Lefkowitz
Three pages into “Shaking Hands with Lefkowitz” I was hooked. Attorney Alan Borman finds himself at a murder scene while it is being cleaned up and investigated. A man has been shot in the back. As the body is rolled over, he recognizes the face of the victim. It is his own. An out-of-this-world plainclothes detective, Detective Lefkowitz, takes Borman in for interrogation. It is his job to find out who murdered him. Lefkowitz and Borman’s guardian angel will provide assistance with clues from his past. Borman reviews journals that document his life. There are several that just cover the worst incidences in his life. He has 89, 437. His focus is to be on the top ten of the worst of these. As Borman felt sorrow for his actions, he was able to reduce the number of negative incidents. He finds one slim journal that lists his ten best incidents. As Borman journeys back into the memories of his past, he relives these events and discovers how his actions have affected the lives of others even into the present time. “Subtle energy” is a term that is used to describe how other people’s actions and even thoughts have an effect on us, even if we cannot see it physically. The energy is put out into the universe and influences us. This story really made me reflect on my own actions and how even my negative behavior as a child could have negatively affected people’s lives today. It also made me think about being more careful about my future actions so that I do not continue to have a negative affect on others. I highly recommend this book to people that are looking for a fictional book that has depth and will give them introspection into their own lives. Foster has written an excellent story that was tough to put down. |
