Although “How to Heal a Painful Relationship” by Bill Ferguson is leaning toward helping couples in conflict, I found it very enlightening and helpful to look at areas of my own happy marriage of 42 years.  There are times when even happy couples have to resolve conflicts, major or minor, and this book certainly gives tools to do so in a healthy and rational way.

Some of the tips Ferguson gives are:

Do whatever you can to heal your relationship.  Make it a top priority.

The first step in releasing resentment is to see if you are willing to let it go.

Accept your 100% responsibility.

The book is full of tips, examples, and action tools.  Chapter 16 covers concepts on how to resolve the issues without conflict, and if that doesn’t work, Chapter 17 covers how your attorney can work for you.

Bill Ferguson, a former divorce attorney, gives concrete and useable information.  The book is concise and understandable.  “How to Heal a Painful Relationship” would be of benefit to those in a painful relationship, however, it would also be a wonderful working tool for couples embarking on a marriage.  Many of Ferguson’s concepts would prevent pain, loss, or conflict, and result in manageability in the relationship and ultimately endearing love.
