Dreamshield is a woman who has been seeking deeper meaning in her life by attending workshops that follow the path of Carlos Castenada’s lessons with Don Juan. Feeling stalled in her growth, she has a chance encounter with Vidar, an American Indian, who is currently living in Amsterdam. When they meet, they both feel an instant connection with one another. Vidar recognizes that Dreamshield is to be his apprentice. In the tradition of Carlos Castaneda she describes in this book her initiation into the Native American Sorcerer’s world and mastering the Art of Lucid Dreaming.
Dreamshield is excited to be selected by Vidar. She also carries a lot of apprehension about her relationship with him. In the beginning, because she is making herself vulnerable to him, she has to learn to trust him. Further along her path, in spite a of a huge age difference she finds herself attracted to him. Realizing that these feelings need to be dealt with for her to continue to progress, she discusses these issues as they arise.
In the two-and-a-half years that Dreamshield spends as Vidar’s apprentice, he works with her on overcoming her fears so that she can reach the second reality. As she goes through her lessons, she discovers that she has gifts as a medium, and she finds herself connecting with her ancestors. These connections give her a better understanding of her origins, and they also allow her send healing to her lineage. Through her intensive dream work, she is able to reach into the second reality.
I found “The Sorcerer’s Dream” to be very enlightening. As Dreamshield shares her fantastic story, I found myself relating to the issues that would arise as she progressed. Sharing her feelings about them, and listening to Vidar’s interpretations, helped me to look inside myself and see how I could relate his information to my own issues. I think that most readers will also find themselves being able to do this. I also carry a huge admiration for the author for sharing her story with us. I totally enjoyed reading her story, but I was kind of surprised that it ends so abruptly. I hope this is because there is more to come and that her story will be continued.
