I'm Okay, You're Dead Deanna Oscar is a 26-year-old psychic, from Chicago, that sees ghosts. She has a PhD in clinical and forensic psychology. On her way to New Orleans for a job interview, she is sidetracked by a vision that tells her that a cab driver’s granddaughter is soon to be murdered. She also feels compelled to go to a mansion that she discovers belonged to her recently deceased grandmother. Having never met her grandmother when she was alive, she now becomes very acquainted with her ghost. Her family kept the grandmother a secret because of her psychic abilities. Being the only other psychic in the family, Deanna inherits her grandmother’s $200 million estate. This comes with the haunted mansion. She also learns about the Lotus Circle which is a group of women with psychic powers. When the cab driver’s granddaughter gets murdered, Deanna feels compelled to help investigate. Along the way she learns that the murderer is being influenced by the ghost of his dead brother. Their sister was murdered by one of them over a fight over her doll collection. The murderer is being led to the current owners of the dolls in the collection by his evil dead brother’s ghost. Deanna steps in and uses her psychic abilities to help solve this crime and to try to stop any other murders. She makes some new friends along the way, who in addition to helping her, also are potential romantic interests. I really enjoyed reading, “I’m Okay, You’re Dead.” In addition to complex live characters, the ghosts also offered an additional dimension to the story. Deanna’s motivation by her desire to use her abilities for good, instead of personal gain, gives the reader more of a sense of urgency in wanting her to solve the case, before more murders are committed. When she learns about The Lotus Circle, she gains another source of support in dealing with her abilities. If you enjoy a good paranormal suspense, you should not miss out on, “I’m Okay, You’re Dead.” You will definitely enjoy this one and it will leave you hoping that Ms. Dragon will write more in this series. |
