Eliza was watching as the warriors guided the “captivates” into the village.  She was angry that the barbarians were forcing women to live with them.  Years before the female sorcerers created a kingdom separate from the barbarian males.  The only contact the Liberian’s wanted with the males were for their seed.  It was time for Eliza, the future Liberian Priestess, to collect seed so that she might bear a female to continue the line of priestess.  She had long known she wanted Bruton’s seed.  She noticed other females from Liberian.  Tasha was her friend until she’d been forced to live with her seed-giver Tilo.  Eliza was determined to gather Bruton’s seed and return to her people where she was needed.

She approached him at the river where he relaxed.  His body excited her in a way she did not expect.  Bruton knew she was there but wanted more than to give her seed, he wanted her heart.  He takes her and returns to his village tying her in his hut.  He tantalizes her body making her scream for release. Tasha comes to her and explains the true reason she has stayed in the village with Tilo.  She was never forced; she’s there of her own free will.  She loves Tilo and if Eliza will only admit it she loves Bruton.  Tilo helps Tasha explain why the men and women were separated.  Will Eliza give in to her passion and stay with Bruton or return to her people?

“Barbarian Mate” by L.D. Day is a story short.  The plot is well-developed and flows smoothly.  The characters are very well-defined.  Eliza has a strong personality; she’s a future priestess that must decide between her heart and people.  Bruton is very strong but vulnerable.  He wants Eliza, but wants more than her body.  The supporting characters are very interesting.  Tilo and Tasha would make great leading characters in a future story.  This is the first book I’ve read by L. D. Day; she’s a talented author.  I recommend this book to fans of erotic romance.
