Widow Words: 100 Simple Pieces of Advice from Another Widow
Of course, my favorite piece of advice in the book is “Go ahead! Buy that expensive outfit. You’ve never deserved it more.” Seriously, Curran gives advice about things that a new widow will probably be confronted with, but has not thought about, from handling leaks in the home, a favorite pet’s passing, special occasions…., and she handles all these things with strength, courage and grace. Her sound advice will help a new widow get through the holidays: “If you always had three trees at Christmas time, is it so bad to have just one? Does anyone but you care if you only bake three dozen cookies instead of twenty-five dozen? Think of Christmas as a season, not just December 25th. Enjoy little things – tea with friends, local tree lights, watching ‘Scrooge,’ a day shopping at specialty shops with a close friend.” Some advice was so simple, but powerful – “You will know when it’s the right time to take the ring off.” “Widow Words” is a little book full of strength and hope. I would highly recommend it to people who have lost a husband, or for people who don’t know what to give a person who just lost their husband. |
