The Yogurt Bible
Culinary herbalist and professional home economist, Pat Crocker, has a series of five “Bibles” with this one being “The Yogurt Bible.” I’ve reviewed several other books that Crocker has published and find them extremely informative and the recipes given are palatable. “The Yogurt Bible” explains the benefits of yogurt and importance of the nutrients that yogurt provides. As well, Crocker gives information on making your own yogurt or the types to buy. Not all yogurt is created equal or is of benefit. Crocker also details the immune system and other systems in the body that will break down if not properly nourished. By the time you finish reading the first part of the “The Yogurt Bible” you will certainly be adding it to your daily regime. The book also has recipes. We are asked to test some of the recipes and for this purpose I made the “Creamy Red Pepper Spread.” Using red bell peppers, garlic, lemon juice, maple syrup, and tahini paste with Yogurt Cheese (recipe included - drained yogurt) this made a tasty spread for crusted bread. We added a side salad and our lunch was complete. The other recipe I tested was “Turkey, Red Beans and Rice.” Easy to make with simple ingredients, while adding a cup of yogurt for nutritional value, we found this curry-flavored dish very palatable. This same type of dish is often made with spicy sausage or ham, but using turkey gives this dish less calories and sodium. We liked the end result and I’ll be making this one again. I encourage adding yogurt to your daily diet so that you can have healthy body systems. Our stress-induced society needs help with health and one way to do it is to make yogurt a daily supplement. “The Yogurt Bible” by Pat Crocker is a perfect way to get introduced to the benefits and to start repairing your body. |
