Once I started reading “Sacred Night,” I could not put the book down. Thank God it was the weekend so I didn’t have to worry about missing work! This story is about two people, Dan and Emily who are relaxing in a bar, when a car comes crashing through the front window. They are the only two known survivors. While they appear to be lying in comas in a hospital they are sharing a journey in their subconscious minds. They both have a mysterious compound in their blood that comes from the Amazon.

As Dan and Emily try to figure out a way to escape their situation, forces from the outside are killing off people that are tied to this mysterious potion known as Eternal Happiness. Not only are their lives in danger, but so are the lives of almost everyone that has knowledge of this elixir. In their dream state, they have to learn how to conquer Death who appears in the form of a ranting bag lady. While they are trying to escape in their dream state, other interesting characters are unveiling the corruption surrounding this elixir. The story takes you from Chicago to Brazil.

Valerie Connelly did an excellent job with writing this debut novel. I look forward to reading other books that she has written since this one. I highly recommend this book to people that enjoy a good mystery with touches of the paranormal thrown in. You will not be disappointed!
