Harry Bosch is back and FBI agent Rachel Walling has him or does she? Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch is back in Michael Connelly’s new book “Echo Park.”  This is Michael Connelly’s tenth book featuring Harry Bosch and you know that the Harry is back in form when Harry tells an annoying detective “You call me ‘Hotshot’ again and I’m going to shove the file up your ass without taking it out of my briefcase.” Harry is one of those detectives; one who does not always respond well to the demands of his superiors.

This time around Harry comes face to face with a case that he caught 13 years ago in 1993.  It was the murder of a young girl named Marie Gesto and it is one of those cold cases that haunted Harry over the years and it appears that Harry and his partner, Jerry Edgar missed a clue in 1993 that might have solved the case.  A suspect, Raynard Waits, has confessed to the murder, but things are not that simple in a Michael Connelly book and there are several twists and turns for the reader before this story is wrapped up.

During the investigation of Waits, Harry reconnects with FBI agent Rachel Walling and they may or may not be back together at the end of book and Bosch may or may not lose his partner, Kiz Rider. Connelly likes to leave his readers hanging and waiting anxiously for the next adventure of Harry.

For readers who are fans of Harry, besides Harry, they will be glad to see the return of several characters from other Harry books like Kiz Rider, Jerry Edgar, Rachel Walling and Irvin Irving.  For readers who are new to the Harry Bosch books, they can still be caught up in the story and follow the twists and turns of the plot without knowing any of Harry’s past history  and after reading “Echo Park,” they will probably be tempted to rush  out and buy the other Harry Bosch books.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good detective mystery.  “Echo Park” is a very enjoyable read and the ride to the end never slows down and just when you think you have everything figured out Connelly throws another twist in the plot right up to the end.  The Hieronymous Bosch fans will be very delighted to see Harry back at work and new crop of readers are bound to fall under Harry’s spell.
