Author Lori Cardille is a woman of many talents and insight.  She has survived the greatest horror a child can know- abuse by a family member. Her goal for this book is to help families and victims of abuse learn to heal.  She encourages all not to get caught up in revenge, but learn to live their lives to the fullest.

The drawings and photographs in the book are done by the author- these illustrations are examples of inner thoughts of victims of abuse. Her direct, often-intense story is one that all should read- we all know someone who has been abused. Her writing gives us great insight into the world of silence and how we as individuals need to learn to come to terms with abusers and learn to love again.

Interesting enough the author thanks her abuser for making her the person she is today. She also is thankful that her parents when she finally told them of her abuse – they believed her.

It is a magnificent account of how we often think we are losing our minds and those terrible acts didn’t occur. It may take years for some to come to terms with their abuse – the journey is half the battle. There are many wonderful resources along the way to help.

“I’m Gonna Tell” by Lori Cardille is a book that I have recommended to my college psychology students.
