On Her Own (Heartsong Audio Book) Once again, Wanda E. Brunstetter offers us a glimpse into the life of the Amish community with this audio version of “On Her Own,” perfect for listening to in the car, while exercising, or anytime listening is a convenient alternative to reading. On their tenth wedding anniversary, David Zook is killed unexpectedly in a car accident, leaving wife Barbara alone to raise their three children while pregnant with their fourth. If that isn’t enough, Barbara must also find a way to run the harness shop David loved so dearly. How will Barbara accomplish it all? Paul Hilty has strayed from the plans his father had for him by choosing harness making over farming. But David Zook had his business in Webster County, leaving little room for the services Paul could offer. Now Paul hears of the struggles Barbara is encountering with trying to raise a family and run a harness shop. Paul returns to Webster County for his older brother’s funeral when his brother dies of a sudden and unexpected fatal heart attack. Paul knows he must answer God’s calling, but he must not let the emotions of his heart get in the way. Paul believes God to be calling him home to Webster County to offer his help to Barbara and her young family. Paul is a lifesaver to Barbara and her family, and she values Paul’s help tremendously. But does she just love the help he provides, or is it something more? Paul also struggles when he feels himself falling in love with Barbara, but Bishop John Fry appears to have feelings for Barbara, and Paul believes Barbara reciprocates those same feelings. I find the writing of Wanda E. Brunstetter to be extremely refreshing and wholesome. All her work is based on good and proper principles that I find quite appealing. I recommend “On Her Own” to others who are enlightened by these same standards and who dislike so much of what the media deems acceptable these days. Wanda E. Brunstetter is a five-star author in my book! This audio is appropriate for all ages. |
