Wanda is well known for her bestselling novels; however, she has also captured her followers attention with a second collection of recipes from the Amish kitchens in America.  The best part of this wonderful cookbook is the fact these are tried and true recipes.

The “Drumstick Pudding” reminded me of the first time I tasted a drumstick. As a child this was the best treat I ever had and collected my pennies to buy one. The recipe brought back many memories and I must say, the flavor of the pudding is what I remember the drumsticks in my childhood to be.

I tried the “Melon Summer Salad” because it sounded interesting.  Combining melon with whipped cream was something I had never experienced but found it very tasty.  The recipe calls for 1/4 cup honey but I would cut that down a bit.  The lemon does cut the sweetness; I suppose it would depend how sweet the melons are and you can judge for yourself as to how much honey to add.  The melons I used are in season and very sweet.

Another recipe I tried was the “Chili Corn.”  What an interesting dish!  The combination of cream cheese, margarine, green chilies and corn made a great casserole and complement to the chicken dish I prepared.

If you are looking to experience some down-home cooking, “Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Cookbook Volume 2” is the book to check out. The recipes are hearty and simple to make.  They will certainly give you the experience of eating a home-cooked meal.
