Unscrambled EggsNadia Brown
A unique collection of intimate prose that shares the depth and soul of the author, “Unscrambled Eggs” has so many wonderfully written works of art that I hate to call it simple poetry. Thought provoking and intense, the author seems to easily bring thoughts and issues to the front of your mind as you realize the truth behind so much of her writing. One of my favorites is the actual title piece, “Unscrambled Eggs,” where the author comments that she can no more change the past then she can unscramble eggs. Putting an exclamation point at the end of your thoughts in a sort of “how true that is!” comment as you read each piece. Much of the author’s poems are filled with insights that many of us refuse to admit to, even though I’m sure we feel much the same. Brown’s comments on society today and how much it has changed, perhaps not always for the best makes one think intensely about how our world is changing. The changes in morality and issues that we somehow seem to continue to look in the other direction are brought to your attention. “Lost Civility” is one of many pieces that deal with the issues of our world and the lack of morals and integrity. Other works comment on the strength we often have, perhaps in handling our every day issues such as unpaid rent or past due bills as we smile in public, never allowing others to know our torments we really feel inside. “Unscrambled Eggs” is a wonderfully unique piece of work that invites deep thought and understanding to the reader. This work of art would make any collection complete. |
