Laurie Browne has created a simple book which outlines the easiest way to learn how to use a teleprompter. Over the years that I have been doing my television show, I have had at least 20 guests insist that they wanted to use the teleprompter. I wish I could have handed them this book and said read this and then come back. The use of a teleprompter requires training and skill. For some reason this never occurs to people. This book is a quick and simple introduction to exactly what needs to be done to use the teleprompter well.

Brown starts with the history of the teleprompter, how it was created and how its uses have evolved over the years. The author takes time to explain all the parts of the teleprompter, including the human part. The human part is actually the source of most of the error. There is a chapter on finding a teleprompter operator, what to look for when considering your particular event. A simple pre-rehearsal and rehearsal chapter will help anyone doing this for the first time feel knowledgeable about what they are doing. Brown also added vocal exercises, warm ups, and speaking techniques to make anyone look and sound more professional. The author even provided a chapter on home made teleprompters. With the success check list and resource chapter in the back, everything you need to get started is there. This book is for speakers, politicians and executives who are just starting their careers. It’s a very quick read. Just add a script and rehearsal time.

This book should be required reading for anyone hosting their own show.
