Cobble There is a plague covering the earth, and the people on Cobble Island think they are the only humans left. Unfortunately, it seems that the undead are killing everyone in sight for their master Cryten. The people on Cobble have decided that if any other survivors show up they can not take them in. There just isn't enough food and provisions for more people. But soon enough, Captain Elliot Simon's group arrives. They are not welcomed by the locals, even when told that a doctor is with them that believes he can find a way to stop the undead. He needs help in his research and Captain Simon makes a deal with Mayor Beck. If Mayor Beck supplies the help in the form of the children at the orphanage, Captain Simon will share some of their provisions with the town's people. The Sheriff is not happy with this turn of events, but he carries out the Mayor's orders. The body of the town's priest is found and he is unrecognizable. Drake one of the pilots with Simon tells Lt. Hannigan that he has seen a body like this before. He also tells her that he thinks Cryten is following him. While they are talking there is a commotion in the camp and the undead start to take over. Dr. Paxton tells Hannigan that he needs to get to his lab in town and forces her to drive him in. Drake sneaks out and decides to go and find Cryten. Meanwhile the orphans are left in one of the tents, having been forgotten by everyone. They decide to escape and form a plan that one of the youths would get the undead to follow him so the others could get away. Drake goes by the Sheriff's house and finds Cryten trying to get to the Sheriff's daughter. Drake had met Amy earlier and goes to her rescue. When they reach the beach they meet the orphans and take them into a cave for safety. While all this is going on the undead are killing everyone in town. Finally Drake goes to meet Cryten and in the end only one of them is standing. This book is well written but I would have liked to see some more explanation of what was going on in the beginning. For horror readers this book is filled with zombies and gruesome murders. |
