Just Desserts: 120 Tasty Recipes (Countertop Inspirations)
As a reviewer I’m asked to test at least three recipes and my biggest challenge is to choose which ones to try out. My first choice was to go quick and easy, so it ended up being “Crunchy Pecan Clusters.” Needing only four ingredients, the little morsels were just that - quick and easy. I’ve made these before but with brown chocolate chips. This recipe called for “white” chocolate which gave the clusters a nice touch. During the Christmas holiday season, I can see myself making these but adding candied red and green cherries to give a festive touch. I used to make a lot of cookie bars when our children were growing up; however, I’ve never seen a recipe like “Chocolate Banana Cookie Bars.” The base was chocolate chip cookie dough; the ingenious part was putting sliced bananas on the frosting. For me, this added that extra special ingredient normally not seen on bars. As I said, I’m into easy so the last recipe for this review I tried was “Cookies and Cream Pie.” The combination of chocolate instant pudding, whipped topping and Oreo cookie crumbs and piecrust is all it took. Within five minutes I had a lovely looking pie to place in the freezer. Needless to say “Just Deserts” is a gem of a desert cookbook; it touches the soul, not only with wonderful sweets, but also passages of the Bible. This is a wonderful little book to keep or to give as a gift. I can’t imagine anyone not being thrilled with it. |
