The people of Earth used up all of the natural resources centuries ago. In order to survive, a few thousand elite citizens were chosen to populate "Sanctum", an underground city made for housing the human race until Earth could be lived upon again. Unknown to the citizens, there are humans on the surface that have also survived and the surface has been able to host life for centuries. Why would the people continue to live underground?

"Fallen City" has all of the necessary elements for good science fiction - a futuristic, cataclysmic setting, friction between the characters and delightful twist around each corner. I don't normally read much science fiction, but found myself unable to put down the book, reading later than I meant to. The characters were likeable and I could relate to them and the setting was descriptive. There were a couple of spots I had to stop and reread because all of the he/she confused me, but I was impressed that the characters stayed in the language used in their respective cities.

This book will appeal to anyone who enjoys fiction and especially to anyone who finds the strange names and circumstances in science fiction not tedious. I really enjoyed the storyline and hope that there is a sequel in the works.
