The Truth About Islam & Women (The Truth About Islam Series)
It’s ironic that this book, “The Truth About Islam & Women,” is written by two men. Considering the prevailing attitude of Islam and the role of women, I still found this book to be very informative. As a psychologist I have done a lot of research on this subject and I find that this seventy-six-page book covered more information than most books or articles I have read. The authors have covered many topics that are of great interest to everyone when trying to delve into the world of Islam. Utilizing the Five Pillars of Islam, as well as the Qur’an, the authors have been able to give exact examples of these thoughts in comparison to Christianity and the role of women. From topics ranging from Muhammad’s life to the spiritual life, the authors, without bugles and fanfare, discuss the role women have in Islam. Areas that I found most interesting were the chapters on “Is A Muslim Woman’s Obedience to her Husband Incontestable,” and “Women and Society,” specifically the use of the veil. Although I do understand what the authors are saying, I find it hard that Muslim women would be able to continue this tradition in the Western world. Having not had the opportunity to speak personally to any Muslim women, I find the strength of these women to uphold the teachings quite strong. The authors provided additional resources at the end of the book on Islam and Women and I found that to be very helpful. “The Truth About Islam & Women” by John Ankerberg and Emir Caner was a very intriguing and informative book. I still have many questions, but I felt the authors did an excellent job in their fact book on this topic. |
