What cookie lover wouldn’t just be thrilled with a book that held 400 different cookie recipes; that’s more than one batch a day.  I was pleased to review “400 Sensational Cookies” because I was about to start a baking spree to help my daughter-in-law hold a benefit holiday bazaar in her private school.  I needed recipes of cookies that freeze well, are easy, and those that would sell well at a bazaar.  And, of course my first choice was “Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies.” Full of chocolate, not only from the large amount of unsweetened cocoa powder but also 2 cups of chocolate chips these cookies were melt-in-your mouth. (I’m sure this was due to the richness of butter, brown sugar, and eggs.)  These are SO good!

For the purpose of the review we are asked to test three recipes.  My second recipe was “Cream Cheese Brownies” because I felt this was another good seller at a bazaar.  Rich, sweet, and wonderful texture – I’m sure these will be a hit.  I did cut them into squares to get ready for the sale; the edge pieces that I cut off and we ate were scrumptious.  I’ve never used cream cheese in brownies before so I’m sure the taste and texture were enhanced because of this ingredient.

The third recipe I tested was “Spice Cookies.”  These reminded me of cookies my mother used to make during the holidays and I’m sure they will be a hit at the bazaar as well. The spices give warmth to a cool day or night and accompanied with a cup of tea I know these will be a hit. For me the cookies were a little too sweet considering the recipe called for 3/4 cup granulated sugar and 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, however, not everyone will feel the same.

As I perused other recipes I found many that I will be making for the bazaar. Of the three that I made for this test I’m super pleased and do recommend this book for any person that loves to make cookies. Can you imagine the eyes of small children if this book is given as a gift to a parent?  Another great book published by Robert Rose Publishing.  Kudos to Linda J. Amendt for compiling “400 Sensational Cookies.”
