“Goal” is one of the most heartwarming, sincere looks at how individuals can learn to get along and benefit from other cultures. The author has given a very intimate look into his life in Afghanistan and his journey to reach his dream in the United States. Even though he was raised in a family that did well financially, there were times his family had nothing. Never once did you hear the author come across as poor, my poor family or me. What they didn’t have in money they had in love and compassion.

The author paints a very vivid picture of how people are judged by their looks, and their cultures-whether it is in India or the United States. He describes his dangerous journey to reach the United States to attend medical school. Throughout a variety of jobs and risky business ventures, the author learns about strength, dedication and that each individual, regardless of where they come from, all have the same goal in life- to survive, be happy and be safe.

“Goal: My Journey from Afghanistan” by Mohammad B. Alikhail was one book I couldn’t put down. Through the author’s vision you were seeking the dream with him. I think once you read this book you will look at others differently.
