This is the story of a man’s internal struggle with a terrible haunting memory, a memory that he had tried in vain to suppress and keep hidden from family and friends. The horrible abuse that he suffered at the hands of his trusted coach and confidant played over and over in his mind. He questioned whether this had any reflection on or caused the terrible seizures he was suffering from.

It started in high school and continued through adulthood, “Arny” would go over to see the coach with the rest of the guys from the team. But on one fateful day, the coach had him stay after all the others left. What happened that day would haunt Arny for the rest of his life.
Till one day it rears its ugly head and he has to relive those horrible times over again.
As if to add insult to injury, this time the whole world will know. His family, his friends, the news media and others, all will know the secret that Arny has kept hidden all these years. Then there is the overwhelming humiliation that he now faces. Victimized by the perpetrator and then again by the justice system, even though he was the innocent victim in this terrible tragedy.

Arny Alberts’ story is not a new one, but it is a story that needed to be told and it is told so well in his book. He takes you into his soul and makes you so fully aware of the pain and mental anguish that he is going through. The torture that he has lived with for so many years is so boldly depicted in this fine literary work.

I found “Burnt Cookies” to be a very well constructed and very nicely written book. The reading is fast moving and Mr. Alberts will keep you glued to the pages. This book is not one to be put down easily; it will hold your attention from first page to the last. I would recommend this book to the general adult audience and give it a very high A on my list of ratings.
